Separating mixtures by sieving
We have been learning about the different ways to separate mixtures. Today we have been focusing on sieving. We decided which sieves and colanders to use to separate a variety of solids.

Looking at key features in a magazine
In preparation for writing our information page about the Loch Ness Monster, we have been looking at magazine pages and identifying key features that they include. We located the heading, subheadings, technical vocabulary, photos, captions, any questions and key facts we could find.

Using Easi-scopes
Today, we have been using the Easi-scopes to look closely at different solids such as sugar, salt, sawdust and coffee. The solids were magnified and we could easily see the different particles clearly. We had to try and guess what each of them were.

Introduction to solids, liquids and gases
Today, we started our topic on ‘Solids, Liquids and Gases’. To begin with, we looked at lots of pictures and sorted them into groups. Then we were given a variety of solids and liquids and we investigated the properties of each, thinking of different words to describe them.

Rock Kidz
We had a great day dressing up as rock stars when Rock Kidz came into school and loved the singing and dancing. We revisited the very important message of being kind to everyone.

Wheelchair basketball
Today, Lancaster Bulldogs came into school to give us the opportunity to play wheelchair basketball. It was much harder than it looked but we persevered and we even scored lots of goals.

Athens or Sparta? Which city-state would you prefer to live in?
We have been discussing the pros and cons for living in the Greek city-states of Athens or Sparta. We sorted a variety of statements into hoops to make a Venn diagram and decided which city-state we would have preferred to live in.

Angles outdoors
We have been learning about angles outdoors today. We looked at angles around us and then made angles with our bodies. Using sticks, we made pictures and named the angles correctly using the words acute, obtuse and right angles.

The Mayor’s Ceremony
Today, Y4 walked to the Ashton Hall in Lancaster to see the new Mayor, Abi Mills, being elected. It was a privilege to be invited and we were asked to sing during the ceremony too. We sang beautifully and were given lots of compliments by the people there.

Decimal decision game
We have played a decimal decision game today. We used our knowledge of place value when using decimals to decide where to put our chosen digit to make the largest number, smallest number or have an odd/even number in the tenths/hundredths column.
