For the past week, Year 6 have been learning about plotting coordinates across all four quadrants. We worked out what our own coordinates would be if we imagined the class as a quadrant and then started each lesson practically. We started by throwing a ball around the room and recording the coordinates of the person who caught it before moving on to creating shapes using string and looking at which coordinate points were involved. On our next lesson we looked at translating the ball right/left/up/down the quadrant and then even translated some of our string shapes too! Finally, the children worked hard to understand how we can reflect shapes and points accurately in a mirror line. By moving the mirror line around the classroom, the children gained a good understanding of how reflections work, and were more confident when reflecting shapes in the four quadrants also.
