Year 6 have been learning all about the Jewish festival of Passover this half term. They learnt how the festival is celebrated every year by Jews all over the world, to make sure they remember the time when God used Moses to rescue and free his people from slavery in Egypt. After many plagues, the final plague involved the angel of death passing over every household in Egypt. The firstborn in every family would die, unless they had followed God’s special instructions to sacrifice a lamb and paint its blood over their doorway. The Passover meal helps Jews retell the story, using different foods to represent elements of the story.

As a Jew himself, Jesus would celebrate the festival of Passover each year. Next half term we will find out how Jesus used this special meal to explain to his disciples how his life and death would provide a new rescue plan for all people.
