Outdoor mental maths
Year 6 took their maths lesson out into the sunshine this morning. Before looking at formal written methods of addition and subtraction next week, we reminded ourselves of mental strategies and jottings we can use to help us solve problems. We worked in pairs to have a go at some examples.

Year 6’s last day at Lockerbie

Thursday at Lockerbie
The day started with two groups doing archery and another learning to fence. We all had to work in teams at raft building in the afternoon, with great success. We also tackled some initiative exercises, learnt how to survive in the wilds and had a go at abseiling.

Wednesday at Lockerbie
The rain held off for us this morning, whilst we all enjoyed canoeing and kayaking on the lake. In the afternoon and evening we had a variety of activities to try out, including low ropes, crate stacking and axe throwing.

Tuesday at Lockerbie
The sun shone on us all day, as we climbed walls, built dens, negotiated the high ropes course and practised our aim in target shooting. We all took part in orienteering, with Mrs Anderson and Miss Huddleston narrowly winning (by one point!).

Y6 arrive at Lockerbie
Year 6 set off for Lockerbie at lunchtime today. They have thrown themselves into the afternoon and evening’s activities with gusto, most of them ending the day covered in mud!
