This afternoon, Year 6 had their first taste of “Garage Band”, a music composing app which we have on our iPads. We had great fun experimenting with the sounds and rhythm patterns!

Now we have finished our individual projects on the countries of North and South America, we have spent some time reading each other’s projects. We looked out for the most interesting or surprising physical and human geography facts. We certainly learnt a lot from each other this afternoon!

Year 6 are currently working on individual projects. Each member of the class has taken responsibility for a different country from North or South America. Once our projects are finished, we will look at each others to learn some key human and physical geography facts about each country.

This afternoon we were visited by Louise, who came to talk to us about water. We learnt about  the water cycle, how we use water in our homes and what United Utilities do to make sure we have a constant supply of clean water to use. Term came to a close this afternoon with the whole school going to church for our carol service. Year 6 lead the service, focussing on gifts - especially God’s gift of Jesus to the world at Christmas. They were also helped by a staff band and a signing choir.

This week Year 6 have visited Chirnside House and Ashton Manor care homes to entertain the residents with their carol singing. They also enjoyed chatting to the residents afterwards.

Year 6 have finally completed their Christmas printing project, with their third layer of colour. The results look spectacular and will be used as our Christmas cards to our parents.

Today, along with children from some other local schools, Year 6 went to Ripley to meet the famous children’s author Jacqueline Wilson. We learnt how she began writing in primary school and had her first story published in a magazine at the age of 17. Her first book was published when she was 26…
