Year 1 started their new RE unit last week: God and His Creation!

We started by discussing what being creative actually means and how it makes us feel, through watching video clips of characters being creative in different scenes. (see below for these video links) We looked at how the characters took great joy in their work and really wanted to get it 'just right'. This helped us later on...

The children were challenged with individual creative tasks- creating trees, flowers, animals, stars, a moon, and a sun- using a range of different mediums and creative skills. The children were able to choose how they wanted their creations to look and were encouraged to collect any additional resources they needed to add to their projects.

After we had finished creating, we talked about how it felt to see our individual creations and how we felt making them. We established that being creative requires our time, patience and effort and results in something that we are proud of and want to keep safe.

This week the children were amazed when they saw their individual creations all brought together into one fantastic class creation! After marvelling at our work that was now ready to display, we linked it to the story of Creation, and went on to sequencing what God did on each day whilst he created His world.

The children came up with some big questions during discussions such as: 'If God made the first people, how did Mummy and Daddy make me? Do they also have powers?' and 'Where did God live before he made the world?'
