This week in Year 1's RE lesson, we looked at God's creation and how it is being spoiled by the actions of people. We talked about how we have choices to make everyday, some of which help the world and others that actually harm it.
The children set to work and cleared 'the beach' of litter, separating the items ready for recycling depending on the materials they were made from: metal, paper/card, glass, and plastic. The children played a game where they matched choices together and decided to display the one that would help the planet e.g. turn off the taps after using or leave the taps turned on. Year 1 also identified various ways of protecting the planet and thought carefully about what God would think, say and feel when looking at His creation being spoiled and also when seeing people working hard to save it.
During continuous provision, some children decided to create posters to show how the world is being spoiled and ways to help fix the problems. Other children independently decided to write prayers to God, thanking Him for creating the world and promising to help protect it!
Well done, Planet Protectors! I wonder how many wonderful ways to heal the world you will remember to add into your life from now on?
