World Book Day started with the teachers reading letters to Duncan from the book The Day the Crayons Quit. This set the scene for the rest of the day. Year 4 had the blue crayon which was complaining as it was short and stubby because it had been used to colour, oceans, skies and rivers. Year 4 wrote a letter from Duncan back to the blue crayon apologising but explaining how important it was.

We spent an enjoyable session mixing all different shades and tones of blue. We could add white, black, green or purple. Next, we looked at a paint chart and discovered all the colours had fancy names. We all had to choose a name for our new shade. Some of the ideas were sapphire skies, rainfall blue, cornflower cyan and shining blue. Finally, all the pieces were joined to gather to create one big splash of blue.
