Today Year 5 and 6 went to Lancaster University for a “Be the Change Day” focusing on the environment.
This was organised by the students of the university and took place on campus.
We learnt all about food miles, how fruit and vegetables are grown and transported and the impact of plastics on our environment.
We also had the chance to visit their Eco Hub and plant wild flower seeds (essential for the bees that live on campus alongside the students!).
Finally we had the opportunity to ask questions of the many student volunteers and find out about their courses, their hopes for the future and how they find being a student at Lancaster. We were amazed by the variety of courses that they were doing (ranging from drama to astro-physics). They were amazed by the really thoughtful questions that we asked, such as, “Did you ever want to give up before getting into university? Who helped you when you felt like that?” and “If you had to give your 10 year old self some advice, what would it be?”. Many of Year 5 and 6 said they felt inspired to go on to study at university or college.
Well done Year 5 and 6. It was lovely to see how much you enjoyed your university experience!
