Today Year 5 walked to Williamson Park for our end of year trip. We have been investigating Ordnance Survey maps to find the best route and also work out what we would be able to see from the viewpoint at Williamson Park. We were very fortunate with the weather because the view today was fantastic! We could see as far as Morecambe Bay, Barrow and the Lake District Hills. Our field sketches were full of detail.
We have also been recapping work done in science about animals and classification, looking at classes of vertebrates and invertebrates, as well as the life cycle of butterflies. We were amazed at how many different classes of animals we were able to see: mammals, fish, amphibians, reptiles, molluscs, crustaceans, insects, molluscs and arachnids. Although there were no birds at the zoo we also saw lots in the wild.
As well as geography and science, we enjoyed a scavenger hunt looking for natural objects representing different adjectives (smooth, bumpy, spiky, colourful etc) and also a blindfold "meet a tree" activity.
All in all, we had a jam-packed and fun day out, and even managed to squeeze in a visit to the shop!
