We have had fun today reading and sharing different poems with children in Year 1. 

We have been investigating what happens to solids when they are heated or cooled. We have heated chocolate, butter, wax, ice, jelly, bread and an egg to see whether they changed state and we recorded our results.

We have been looking at information pages in different magazines and finding the key features. We used post-it notes to identify headings, subheadings, labels, captions, facts, questions and key vocabulary. We are going to use these key features when we write our own information page about the…

We have been looking at solids, liquids and gases and their properties. We had lots of fun using the Easi-scopes to look at magnified particles in ‘solids that behave like liquids’. 

We have been using classification keys to identify living things. We completed them both in groups and individually.

We have been looking at different ways to group animals and have sorted them using Venn diagrams. We discussed lots of different ways to classify them.

We have had fun completing the ‘Pentominoes Challenge’. First, we had to make 12 shapes using 5 squares. When we had created the 12 shapes, we then put them on a grid with no gaps or overlapping shapes.

We have been looking at chronology and placing key periods of history into the correct order.
