Investigating bigger numbers
We used lots of resources to make some 2 digit numbers. We used the vocab tens and ones and understood the value of numbers.
Maths treasure hunt in the sun
On Monday afternoon, Year 6 enjoyed a bit of light relief after their first SAT. We went outside to do a maths treasure hunt - solving a variety of problems, then using the answers to locate the next challenge. We got some fresh air and exercise, at the same time as revising some mathematical…
Mary, Mary, quite contrary
As part of our topic about growing, we have learnt a new nursery rhyme. We looked at some real cockle shells and laid our flowers and shells in a row like Mary did. We found out that pretty maids and silver bells are flowers. Later on this term we will be planting our own seeds and watering them.
Decimal Jewellery Making in Year 5!
Today we started our new maths topic (Decimals, Fractions and Percentages) by making jewellery. We each cut up a whole straw (worth one) into ten equal pieces (worth a tenth) and made this into a tenths necklace. Then we took a tenth piece of straw and cut this up into ten equal pieces (worth a…
3D Shapes
We also looked carefully at the 3D shapes and drew around each face. This helped us to see the shapes of the different faces.
3D Shape
We also used the polydron shapes to make our own 3D shapes. This helped us to really think about the shape of the different faces on the shapes.
3D Shape
We are learning about 3D shapes in maths. Here we are making some using cocktail sticks and marshmallows. This helped us to think about how many vertices in each shape.
Year 1 Maths- comparing 2 digit numbers
We made 2 digit numbers using a range of resources and compared them using greater than and less than.
Making 2 digit numbers
We used lots of resources to show how we can make 2 digit numbers by partitioning into tens and ones. We used straws, ten frames, numicon, number lines and bead bars. We enjoyed exploring different ways.
Investigating Patterns in Multiplication Tables
In maths we have been investigating patterns in different multiplication tables. We looked at the digital roots of the different tables and drew the shapes that these made onto circles. We were amazed by the different shapes that were created. We tried to work logically and carefully so we could…
Which 3D shapes could stack the best?
“We’ve made a tower bigger than us using 3D shapes!”
They named which shapes were good to build towers with.
