The Great Scotforth Bread Bake Off

Today we finished off our bread by decorating it using icing, chocolate and sweets. Our bread had to look like our designs when it was finished. Mrs Walsh and Mrs Cocker were the judges. It was their job to choose winners for 3 categories.

Bread making using our own designs

Today we made our own bread using our designs. The basic recipe was the same but some of us chose whole meal or 50:50 rather than white bread. We chose whether to add extra ingredients to the mixture before leaving it to rise. The bread was then cooked.

Cheese Scones

Today we have made cheese scones in Year 5. The DT skills we were focusing on were mixing, rubbing in and grating. We compared the making process with our bread from last week and found the similarities and differences.

Bread making 1

Today we have been learning how to make white bread in class. We weighed out the correct ingredients, mixed them together and then kneaded our dough, before making a shape. The bread was left to prove and then cooked.

Year 5 Christmas Decorations

This morning we made stained glass baubles to decorate our school Christmas tree. Thank you to all our parents for giving up their time to help us. Our baubles look beautiful.

African Masks

After designing our own African Mask we have now entered the making phase. Step 1 was to create our mask outline in cardboard. Step 2 was covering the whole mask in Modroc which is a plaster product that  hardens as it dries. Keep watching for Step 3 (coming soon).

Dissection of a flower

In Science we dissected Oriental Lilies and Alstroemeria flowers to find all the parts of the flower we had learned about in our pollination and fertilisation lessons. We were amazed at how small some of the parts actually were.

Mad Science Assembly

We found out about sound waves and how they travel today in our Mad Science Assembly. It was fun, exciting and at times hot, hot, hot. After Christmas we are hoping to run a Mad Science Club in school on a Friday. Look out for the flyer for this if your child is interested.

Year 5 Poppy Art

Take a look at our beautiful poppies. We created them using watercolours, collage, paint and pattern. The poppies will be displayed in Marketgate Shopping in the coming weeks, so keep your eyes open and see if you can spot our art around town.

Today we went into Dorrington Woods to use natural materials to create a floating raft that would carry pennies without sinking.
